The Wanaka-XC Ruby Swim stay is a 7 night, fully-catered, holiday in New Zealand aimed at adventure swimmers looking for an exhilarating swimming holiday experience. We will take you on daily lake swims at various locations around Lake Wanaka. Our swims will be along the coast in lesser known areas of the lake. All swims will be invigorating - so different to swimming in a pool or the ocean - no salt, chlorine, sand - just fresh unadulterated water. We look after absolutely everything once we have picked you up from Queenstown airport or hotel - all you have to do is swim!

The Wanaka-XC Ruby swim stay is aimed at swimmers (and their partners) who are capable of swimming at least 3 km confidently in a session.  It doesn't matter what speed you are, as we are bound to have faster and lower swimmers -> but you need to be able to keep on going! Our program is progressive, we build up to more adventurous swims so you can become accustomed to the depth and familiar with the staggering levels of visibility in the crystal waters.

A safe adventure

Our group is small, no more than 9 people and we ensure that we have out of the water support for all swims.  A kayak / SUP will follow all swims.  Our mid-week adventure swim will also be accompanied by a boat.  All swimmers will be supplied with a safety buoy from new wave which will provide visibility of the group and offer support in an emergency.  Swims will only be conducted if the conditions are suitable, and if not, there are various other activities we can substitute our program with.

Travelling with a non-swimming partner? - No problems! They can walk alongside our swimming routes and meet us at our swimming destination, otherwise we can suggest many other ways to keep occupied in Wanaka for the morning while the swimmers are swimming.

The ruby swim

The Ruby Swim event is a small, friendly, swimming event in its infancy. It will be finale of the week's swimming and held on Saturday the 26th. The Ruby offers various distances so everyone can confidently challenge themselves. The race is named and based around Ruby Island which you can see in the picture below.

Our base - Wanaka

Wanaka is home to many elite endurance athletes drawn to its majestic terrain and mountain town vibe. It's a hidden gem that many miss when visiting the Otago Lakes region in NZ - a true contrast to Queenstown. The locals are friendly and hospitable, knowing they are living in one of the most beautiful towns in the whole world.  We take great pride introducing Wanaka to our guests.

We have designed our program to give you opportunity to explore the town's attractions and are happy to help you with advice.

A word from Nicole...

We'll help you be your best!

Nicole has swum her entire life (and gets a little grumpy if she doesn't get to do it!).   She raced as a junior to State and Australian National level, then when she slowed down a tad whilst studying at University trained hard in long distances, travelling around Australia competing in 8km races.

In 2015, Nicole, Tim and their young children took a sabbatical year in Wanaka.   She joined the Wanaka Lake Swimmers and loved every swim!  The peace, tranquility and smoothness of the lake with its fresh and crystal clear waters ... and she was also blown away by the mountain views while breathing!

Nicole is passionate about showing other swimmers what swimming in Lake Wanaka is all about.

AND our guests say....

"Our hosts looked after us beautifully with our every need met, especially the planning undertaken to make our swims safe but adventurous. With the magnificent backdrop of mountains and the stunning waters of Lake Wanaka, an experience here is well recommended "

" Since our stay with you in Feb this year, I have told so many people how much I enjoyed the whole experience;  the accomodation was extremely  comfortable, the food excellent and the baked vegies and fish recipe has become a favourite. But how do you describe the daily swims in crystal clear water with no jellies or sharks to worry about, the sensation of swimming along the cliff face and the boat trip to one of our swim locations with Mt Aspiring looming in the background? To be floating in the water taking in the remarkable surroundings was simply breathtaking "

"Firstly, thank you so much for a lovely week. It was great swimming in Lake Wanaka - all those different places we went to were simply stunning.
The food was wonderful. Breakfast provisions were great. Your dinners fabulous.
The support crew on all our swims was top notch. Never worried for a moment that I could head off unnoticed in the wrong direction
The house was well-located to town and it had everything needed for a splendid stay."
